Iran awaits 1st gold medal in Greco-Roman

TEHRAN, Sep. 08 (MNA) – Iran's Greco-Roman 98 kg weight representative was able to overcome his Bulgarian opponent to reach the final competition in wrestling world championships held in Las Vegas, US.

Following the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships held in Las Vegas, USA, Qasem Rezaei in 98 kg weight won against his opponent from Bulgaria in the semi-final competition 3-nil, to reach the final stage of the tournament.

2012 Olympic champion and Iranian Greco-Roman star Ghasem Rezaei is once again in the mix for World gold following a comeback bid in Tashkent the resulted in a World bronze medal. Rezaei took the 2013 year off from international competition after striking gold in London.

The one difference from last year to this year for the Iranian is notching an international competition under his belt prior to the World Championships. Rezaei won the Wladyslaw Pytlasinski Cup in impressive fashion, perhaps giving him the proper tune up this time around heading into the World Championships.

Rezai had already punched his ticket to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The other Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Saeid Abdevali was defeated in the semifinals and failed to reach the final competition.
